About Gearvane

A workshop shaped by stillness and skill.

We believe the best repair work begins with listening — to the watch, and to the person who wears it.

Our story

Slow work done with steady hands

Gearvane came to life in the heart of Kuala Lumpur with a straightforward conviction: that watches — whether modest daily companions or carefully collected rarities — deserve attention free from hurry. Our studio at Jalan Pudu was set up with this in mind: a space where quiet concentration is the standard, not the exception.

Over the years, our work has drawn in watchmakers with backgrounds in Swiss-trained servicing, vintage movement conservation, and precision timing regulation. What we share is a preference for doing things properly the first time, and a genuine respect for the mechanical art contained in even the most ordinary timepiece.

We serve clients across the Klang Valley and accept carefully packaged pieces by tracked post. Every watch that enters our workshop is logged, assessed, and returned to its owner with a clear record of what was done.

Our Mission

To provide watchmaking services that are thorough, transparent, and shaped around each individual piece — without rushing, without shortcuts.

Our Vision

To become the watchmaking studio in Malaysia that people turn to when a piece truly matters — whether that's a first watch or a family heirloom.

Our Values

Honesty about what a watch needs and what it doesn't. Craft over speed. Communication throughout. Respect for the object and the person it belongs to.

How we work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Every service that leaves our workshop has passed through the same careful process, regardless of the watch's value or the service type chosen.

Intake Assessment

Every watch is examined, photographed, and logged before any work begins. We document the condition accurately so you have a clear baseline record.

Proper Lubrication

We use watchmaking-grade lubricants applied to specification — not approximations. Under- or over-lubricating is one of the most common causes of movement wear.

Timing Regulation

Mechanical movements are regulated across multiple positions using a timing machine, ensuring accuracy meets or approaches the manufacturer's original specification.

Water Resistance Testing

Applicable watches are pressure-tested after resealing to confirm water resistance meets the rated specification before they leave the workshop.

Transparent Communication

We don't proceed with work beyond the agreed scope without contacting you first. You remain informed and in control throughout the process.

Parts Documentation

Replaced parts are documented and, in restoration work, returned to the owner alongside the finished piece. Nothing from your watch is discarded without notice.

Watchmaking in Kuala Lumpur — a craft worth finding

Finding a watchmaker in Malaysia who takes time with their work — rather than turning pieces around at volume — takes some searching. Gearvane was built for people who care about the result. Whether you carry a quartz dress watch to a meeting each morning or keep a hand-wound piece from the 1960s wrapped in a cloth at the back of a drawer, both deserve a proper look from someone who understands what they're looking at.

Our Kuala Lumpur studio handles Swiss, Japanese, and German movements across a wide calibre range. We have particular depth in vintage mechanical work — sourcing replacement parts for discontinued calibres, stabilising deteriorating dials, and bringing worn ébauches back to a reliable rate.

The watchmaking community in Southeast Asia is small and closely connected. We take pride in a reputation built on honest assessments, careful workmanship, and the knowledge that returning a watch to someone in better condition than expected is the best outcome we can aim for.
